Four months after moving
to London I began freelancing as an artworker and it wasn’t long
before I was invited to join the design teams, frequently returning to
the companies who had requested my design skills. I worked for several
design agencies and in-house studios during the 6 years I spent in the
UK and Australia, on projects as diverse as designing low budget NGO literature
and art directing a winning $1 billion bid.
When I returned home to South Africa I moved to the tiny village of
Aurora where, thanks to email and Acrobat files, I continued to work
(despite all the delightful distractions of the countryside). I decided
to move to Cape Town in order to be closer to my friends, and paradoxically,
be able to rock climb more often!
The benefit of having travelled so much is that I have come into contact
with, and been able to learn from, many diverse styles and methods,
while working alone has allowed me to develop my own style and given
me confidence in my work. And all along I have retained the delight
in creating which I have experienced from the beginning.
